Robin Olson (she/her/hers),
Robin Olson (she/her/hers), MS, Kansas 5/5, Missouri Master, 500 ERYT, was born and raised in Indianola, Iowa. She moved to the Kansas City area in 1981 to attend the Interpreter Training Program at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) in Overland Park, Kansas, where, during her second year of the program, she was hired as one of two staff interpreters/tutors. Robin holds a Bachelors of Science in Social Psychology and Linguistics from Park University in Parkville, Missouri and a Masters of Science in Deaf Education from Western Maryland College, now known as McDaniel College, in Westminster, Maryland.
She retired in 2018 after thirty-four years of teaching at Kansas School for the Deaf and two years teaching in mainstream programs. Robin continues to be an active ASL/English interpreter and mentor, a part-time naturalist at Ernie Miller Nature Center, and a 500 hour Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher. She is a member of and volunteer at the Museum of Deaf History, Arts, and Culture in Olathe, Kansas. Robin serves a variety of other Deaf and faith-based organizations. She is a member of Kansas Association of Interpreters Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf where she has served in a variety of board positions. She is a member of Kansas Association of the Deaf, Olathe Club of the Deaf, National Association of the Deaf, and the national Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. She has extensive ASL/English interpreting experience in a variety of venues and in 2021 completed Project CLIMB focusing on legal interpreting. She is also on the legal standards committee of Kansas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Robin and Mark have been married for 24 years. They have a blended family consisting of two daughters, one Deaf and one hearing, who are grown and have families of their own. Robin is grandma to two amazing grandchildren. She is an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and serves at Deaf International Community Church, both in Olathe, Kansas. She is honored to serve as the Volunteer Coordinator and Secretary for Deaf Transformation.
